The Profepa (Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection) in Quintana Roo was forced to file two criminal complaints with the FGR (Attorney General’s Office) against an individual due to the construction of a mega-building in a marine turtle nesting area in Bahía Solimán, Tulum. The complaints are for the violation of official seals and against biodiversity, as there was disobedience after a district judge ordered the closure of the work.
This case came to public attention in November 2023, when neighbors of Tulum and the civil association Defending the Right to a Healthy Environment (Dmas) revealed that real estate agents began to promote and market a seven-story condominium without any environmental impact permission.
