In a significant move towards regional development, the mayors of Playa del Carmen and Tulum have forged an alliance aimed at consolidating public safety, promoting tourism, and enhancing social welfare.
Estefanía Mercado, mayor of Playa del Carmen, and Diego Castañón, mayor of Tulum, met to establish a shared work agenda that prioritizes regional well-being. The partnership underscores the commitment of both municipalities to develop strategies that positively impact citizens’ quality of life while solidifying the Mexican Caribbean as a hub for sustainable development and organized tourism.
“We have a long history between our municipalities,” Mercado emphasized. “Tulum has evolved into one of the most prominent destinations in the Caribbean, and through this partnership, we can amplify the benefits for our communities.”
During the meeting, key issues were addressed, including security coordination, joint route planning to boost national and international tourism, as well as concrete actions on inclusion, social assistance, and community development programs.
This alliance is set to promote a collaborative governance model in Quintana Roo, reflecting a shared vision of a prosperous future. “When we work together,” Mercado noted, “we can achieve transformation, and when two destinations like Playa del Carmen and Tulum join forces, the entire region benefits.”
In a recent move, Mayor Castañón donated four all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) to Zofemat personnel for beach area monitoring and sargassum cleaning services. This gesture underscores the commitment of both municipalities to enhancing regional security and promoting eco-friendly practices.
This partnership marks a significant step towards a brighter future for Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and the entire state of Quintana Roo, as leaders in Mexico’s tourism sector work together to create opportunities for growth and development.
