Mexican Sailors Triumph at Mayan Wind Fest Cancún 2025

Jerónimo Abogado and Mariana Aguilar, two talented Mexican sailors, emerged as the winners of the Mayan Wind Fest Cancún 2025 held at Marina Puerto Cancún. Their victory in the IQFoil Class has earned them a spot in the upcoming Junior Pan American Games in Asunción 2025.

Jerónimo Abogado, a native of Puerto Aventuras, Solidaridad, showcased his exceptional skills by defeating competitors such as Kai Rozeboom from Aruba and Joaquín Reuteman from Argentina. Mateo Cortes from Puerto Aventuras secured fourth place. In the women’s IQFoil category, Olympic athlete Mariana Aguilar clinched the victory for Mexico, leaving Argentina’s Chiara Ferretti in second place and Aruba’s Sara Rozeboom in third.

In the Kite Formula category, Mexican Alec Velázquez and Colombian Marie Prevot emerged as winners. The Wing Foil Class was won by American Christopher MacDonald, while the Open Foil category saw Colombian Marie Prevot taking the top spot. Aldo Gabriel Ancona from Puerto Aventuras triumphed in the Windsurfer Class, beating teammates Irina Hentschel and Leopoldo Montelongo.

Ana Villegas won the Wingfoil division with a spectacular 22-kilometer crossing to Isla Mujeres, followed by Cancun native Mariana Carrasco in second place. Argentine Mateo Maldonado won the ILCA 7 Class, defeating Shanoy Malone from the Antilles and Mexican Sanka Bourquin. Elena Oetling Ramírez secured victory for Mexico in the ILCA 6 category, with Guatemalan Cristina Castellanos in second place and Pedro Iglesias in third.

In the ILCA 4 category, Leandro Sánchez from El Salvador emerged victorious, beating Mexicans Lucia Rivas and Luana Borrego from Puerto Aventuras.

The Optimist division was dominated by Quintana Roo sailors. In the advanced category, Mía Acuña from Puerto Aventuras, Solidaridad, took first place, followed by teammate Salma Borrego and Otis Cardow from Bacalar in third. Quintana Roo also won the Team Race specialty, with Yucatán and the State of Mexico teams following.

The closing and awards ceremony was led by Beatriz González Luna, president of the Mexican Sailing Federation and vice president of World Sailing. She praised the quality of the Mayan Wind Fest Cancún 2025 and the beautiful setting of Marina Puerto Cancún. She was accompanied by Fernando del Olmo, general director of the competition, and Miguel Pani, president of the National Windsurfing Association, as they congratulated all the winners of this national and international event.
