Naval personnel assisted eight people, including two minors, after their yacht became stranded in the Nichupté Lagoon.
As part of the “Security Strategy for the First 100 Days,” the Mexican Navy continues to ensure the safety of Quintana Roo’s coasts. In this context, the Interinstitutional Task Force (FTI) “Benito Juárez” conducted a rescue operation in the Nichupté Lagoon, located in the municipality of Benito Juárez, Cancún, Quintana Roo.
During a maritime surveillance patrol in Cancun’s hotel zone, FTI naval personnel spotted a yacht named “TAFIL” that had set sail from Puerto Juárez, Quintana Roo, with eight people on board, including six adults and two minors, all of Mexican nationality. The crew signaled for help after their boat ran aground in front of a hotel.
The naval team quickly approached the yacht, assessed the situation, and provided a rope to maneuver and free the boat. Within minutes, the yacht was towed back into the sea, allowing the crew to continue their journey without incident.
No medical attention was needed for any of the people on board. After ensuring everyone’s safety, the naval team resumed their patrol in the area.
For emergencies at sea, the Navy provides the 24-hour hotline 800 MARINA1 (800 627 4621) for citizens.
