According to information obtained by the Infoqroo agency, the final count reached 583 tons by 2:30 PM.

Since last Wednesday, the municipal government of Isla Mujeres has implemented a special cleaning operation for the beaches due to the unusual arrival of seaweed along 150 linear meters of Playa Norte.

The sargassum collection operation is carried out by personnel from the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat) of Isla Mujeres. They work tirelessly from 6 AM to 5 PM, with the support of citizens, volunteers, municipal staff, fishermen, and traders, to keep the iconic Playa Norte clean.

Dayana Alejandra Pérez Medina, the Director of Zofemat Isla Mujeres, explained that since last Wednesday, more than 250 people have collected 530 tons of seaweed in the affected area of Playa Norte, covering from Nabalam to Hotel Mía.

The unusual influx of seaweed is attributed to a low-pressure system in the Gulf of Mexico and changes in ocean currents.
