Hurricane Grace: Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Tulum and Yucatan left without power

“Grace” hit the coasts of the Gulf of Mexico and until 6:00 in the morning damage to the infrastructure of the electric power line of the Federal Electricity Commission has been reported

The parastatal reported that at the moment, about 150 thousand inhabitants were practically in the dark, since the rains and hurricane winds that the system registers, affected the electricity lines.

The affected areas are: Cancun where more than 84 thousand users are reported without electricity, as well as 65 thousand more in: Playa del Carmen, Cozumel and Tulum; southern Yucatan also reports power outages

The agency indicated that as soon as the weather allows it, they will begin the work of restoring electrical energy since at the moment it is not possible.

A few hours ago, the CFE confirmed that it sent crews of electrical workers from the Central East Division to Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo to support the electrical restoration work after the impact of Grace; the work will be extended to the areas that will later impact since the system’s displacement is very wide.

“Grace” made landfall in the early morning of this Thursday, August 19 and at the moment it remains over Yucatán as a category one hurricane; Later, it will go out to sea again and go to Veracruz, where it will also impact with this force in the course of, it is predicted, between the night of 20 and early morning of August 21.

The system moves west quickly at 28 km / h with sustained winds of 10 km / h and gusts of 140 km / h and also leaves torrential rains of 150.1 to 250.0 mm in the next 24 hours over Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo.

Heavy rains are expected in at least 5 states for ‘Grace’ The National Meteorological Service ( SMN ) predicted torrential rains in Yucatán, Campeche and Quintana Roo, as well as heavy rains in Oaxaca and Chiapas after the hurricane made landfall in the national territory. In another 25 states there will be very heavy to isolated rains.
