The leader of the hoteliers in Cancún, Jesús Almaguer, regretted that despite the copious voting in the three special polling stations installed in Cancún, only 1,000 ballots were made available for each of these so that people in transit could cast their vote.

“This has historically been the case, it is not the first time it happens, it is not only regrettable but unconstitutional that they restrict the citizens’ right to vote in this way; it cannot be that the INE does not anticipate that tourist destinations like Cancún will have much more than 3,000 people in transit on a mid-year Sunday,” he stated when casting his vote at the polling stations at kilometer zero of the hotel zone.

The state secretary of Tourism, Bernardo Cueto Riestra, assured that there are around 380,000 tourists staying in the entity, with about 70% occupancy.
