Two former Playa del Carmen officials who held high-level positions during the municipal administration of Lili Campos Miranda, a close associate of Senator Ricardo Monreal, were arrested and charged with abuse of office and illicit exploitation of power.
The defendants were reported last March for allegedly altering property registration documents and thus dispossessing landowners in the Cristo Rey neighborhood, located in the northwest of this municipality.
The acts for which they are accused likely occurred while they were officials subordinate to the now former mayor.
The arrests involve Jorge “N,” who served as a lawyer in the contentious affairs department, and Ariadne Guadalupe “N,” who was Lili Campos’s presidential secretary.
Last week, the Quintana Roo Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office executed arrest warrants against the former public servants. They were brought before a Playa del Carmen supervisory judge, who summoned them for the complaints filed.
The social representation announced, through a press release, that both were charged with the aforementioned crimes. They were ordered to be held in pretrial detention for a maximum of three months while the complementary investigation continues.
Earlier this year, residents of Cristo Rey reported that the former officials had altered property registration documents to allegedly seize land they already owned.
These properties have been regularized in recent years by the federal government, through the National Institute of Sustainable Land (Insus).
In the case of Ariadna Guadalupe, according to a public deed search, she also purchased a property owned by the city council, while a public servant, for 13,765 pesos. The purchase agreement was signed on August 30, 2024, one month before Lili Campos left the Playa del Carmen municipal presidency.
Campos Miranda was president of this municipality from 2012 to 2024. She lost her reelection bid as the PAN-PRI candidate to Morena, led by current mayor Estefanía Mercado Asencio.
After resigning from her position as a councilor within the city council, she distanced herself from the PAN-PRI, a political party that even led her to a seat as a representative in the Quintana Roo Congress.
