Like every year, the Rosewood Mayakoba and Rosewood San Miguel de Allende hotels announce their emblematic Day of the Dead celebrations, which capture the essence of one of the most representative holidays in Mexico.

The Day of the Dead is an ancient Mexican tradition that has been declared by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and represents a unique opportunity to celebrate life and remember those who have left this world.

This year, ancient traditions will come to life at Rosewood hotels in the Riviera Maya and in San Miguel de Allende through gastronomy, music, mixology and folklore.

The party will kick off on October 31 at Zapote Bar with the special collaboration of Bar Brujas, Mexico City’s renowned women-led cocktail space distinguished by its herbal versions of classic drinks and its subtle references to Latin American writers and activists, the original witches.

The feminine power of the women behind the Bruges bar will fill Zapote Bar with its mysticism with a selection of its most emblematic cocktails, perfect for celebrating a Halloween night.

On November 1, the Ceiba dinner with the Spirits will not only welcome guests but also the souls who come to visit the land of the living tonight. Under the large ceiba tree and among paths of marigold flowers that guide you from Mictlán, this dinner with locally inspired dishes will pay tribute through food, music and flowers to all those who have left this world.

On November 2, a joyous parade along the hotel’s paths will fill the celebrations with joy with a guided tour of dancing catrinas, mojigangas and live music that will lead to the beach club Aqui Me Quedo where a great party will begin for the guests, spirits surrounded by flowers, music, folk art, altars, sugar skulls, bread of the dead and cocoa to honor life after death.

The celebrations will close with a night of Mexican Grill in front of the sea.

Rosewood San Miguel de Allende

‘We Are All Calaveras’ is the event that will take place in the Rosewood Garden, a place that is distinguished by its abundant vegetation and panoramic views that can be seen from every corner of the garden.

On this occasion, executive chef, César Enciso, designed a gastronomic experience for both guests and locals that promises to be an authentic culinary tribute to the Day of the Dead.

The Parish of San Miguel de Allende will be the backdrop for a feast that will be distributed in different food stations where those present will have the opportunity to try various traditional flavors of Mexico.

To start, this vast banquet will offer an appetizer station that will include everything from roasted elotes and esquites to mole de Olla and pozole.

There will also be a tamales and hot drinks station, as well as a section of typical Mexican quesadillas and garnachas, as well as a station dedicated to mole and tacos.

Those who want to close with a flourish, on the dessert table they will find pan de muerte and churros to delight. The night will be set to the music of a DJ who will be in charge of making all the souls present dance.

Like every year, Rosewood San Miguel will award the best characterization of catrines and catrinas.

The winners will receive prizes ranging from experiencing a spectacular stay at the Rosewood San Miguel de Allende hotel to visiting the amazing Rosewood Little Dix Bay in the British Virgin Islands, among others. One of the Rosewood salons will become a makeup set where those who wish can be transformed into elegant catrines and catrinas by professional makeup artists.

The ‘We Are All Calaveras’ party will not be the only celebration that will take place in Rosewood San Miguel de Allende during the Day of the Dead.

Additionally, Luna Rooftop will offer a special menu to commemorate the souls who return to the world of the living to reunite with their loved ones. From the heights of San Miguel, where the views encompass ancient roofs and bell towers, you can enjoy a menu that transcends the senses and is inspired by ancestral flavors.

Tempura shrimp tostada, Pork Belly and mole colorado tacos, gringa chicken al pibil, zarandeado shrimp, empanadas with barbacoa and fritters with piloncillo honey are the dishes that will be found on Luna Rooftop’s Day of the Dead menu.

The stars, the gastronomy and San Miguel de Allende will be the perfect companions to remember loved ones who have passed away but who live in memories.
