Hurricane Milton has raised alarms, potentially leading to more cruise arrivals being suspended in Cozumel.

Due to the proximity of Hurricane Milton, port authorities decided to cancel the arrival of the cruise ship scheduled for yesterday, Sunday, at the “Island of the Swallows,” to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.

The ship in question is the Margaritaville At Sea Islander, which was scheduled to arrive on the Cozumel coast at 6:00 AM; however, a last-minute notice confirmed the cancellation of its arrival. This situation may lead to more cancellations in the coming days, which could severely impact the island’s economy.

The arrival of cruise ships represents a significant source of income for the island, as each one generates an economic impact exceeding 4 million pesos, benefiting various commercial and tourism sectors.

The uncertainty about the evolution of Hurricane Milton has raised alarms among local business owners, who fear that cancellations will continue if the weather does not improve in the coming days.

Four municipalities in the northern part of the state (Benito Juárez, Lázaro Cárdenas, Puerto Morelos, and Isla Mujeres) were on Green Alert (low danger) due to the natural phenomenon; and four others in the central (Solidaridad and Tulum) and Maya (Felipe Carrillo Puerto and José María Morelos) zones of the state were on Blue Alert. No warnings had been issued for Cozumel, Bacalar, or Othón P. Blanco.
