Cozumel is set to welcome 31 cruise ships between November 11 and 17, bringing an estimated 93,000 travelers and potentially generating over 126 million pesos in economic impact.
Port activity on the island will significantly increase during this period, with the arrival of these “colossi of the seas.” Tuesday will be the busiest day, with seven ships docking, testing the operational capacity of the island’s three international docks at maximum capacity.
The schedule for the week includes six ships on Wednesday, five on Thursday and Monday, four on Friday, and two each on Saturday and Sunday. The busiest docks are expected to be Puerta Maya and SSA Mexico, each with 12 berths, while Punta Langosta will handle seven arrivals.
With each cruise ship carrying an average of 3,000 people and an average tourist spending of $80, the economic impact for Cozumel is expected to be substantial. This influx benefits not only the local tourism industry but also other sectors such as commerce, transportation, and services.
These projections reinforce Cozumel’s status as a premier cruise destination in the region, significantly contributing to the economy of Quintana Roo.
