Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun mayor Mara Lezama has announced that four beaches around the city will reopen with the upcoming change in the region’s epidemiological light. Three of the beaches will reopen to locals on September 7 once the epidemiological light officially changed to yellow.

She says that the Benito Juárez City Council, through the Directorate of the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat), has integrated a protocol of public beaches to begin their reopening in a gradual, orderly and responsible manner, adding that the first phase of reopening will include Playas Chac Mool, Las Perlas and Delfines.

She added that on Friday, September 11, Playa El Niño will be reopened.

“Thanks to everyone’s efforts, we received the news that as of Monday, September 7, in the municipality of Benito Juárez, the epidemiological light will turn yellow.

This allows us to increase the percentage of activities and the opening of public beaches in a responsible manner,” explained Lezama.

She stressed that authorities will be at each of the beach sites to ensure compliance, which includes a group maximum of five people, healthy distancing and the use of sanitizing gel. Sports will not be allowed and alcoholic beverages, prohibited.

Access lines will be formed for those wanting to visit the beach. Temperatures will be taken before beachgoers are allowed to enter the beach.

The allowed influx Monday to Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. will be 60 percent capacity. Infographics of all sanitary measures will be placed in the access filters and in the toilets.
