Cancun would be closer to returning to the color red than to advancing to yellow at the epidemiological traffic light since the cases of contagion by covid-19 continue to increase. Hoteliers try to control the situation by reinforcing their sanitary protocols to avoid contagion among their collaborators and guests, but they tremble at the fear of mandatory confinement.

“Now it is necessary not to lose sight of this panorama where we have a good rebound in the number of infections, so continuing to work in coordination with authorities to continue with the tourist reactivation, we as hoteliers are going to reinforce our health protocols to protect staff guests, ”said Roberto Cintrón Gómez, President of the Cancun, Puerto Morelos, and Isla Mujeres Hotel Association, as recorded by La Verdad.

Cintrón Gómez has been indicating that based on the reservations that the hotels have so far, the summer season projects an occupancy that could exceed 60%, but this could change if the traffic light changes to red, which puts the season.

For his part, Governor Carlos Joaquín will have to decide in the coming days whether the epidemiological traffic light remains orange or goes back to red and has already warned that there is this possibility that could include new restrictions such as hotel occupancy limits after having lowered them already ago. a few days up to a maximum of 50 percent except for exceptions.

As we publish in REPORTUR.mx, hoteliers blame the accommodations that are rented through the Airbnb platform, as the cause of the upturn in infections in the southern part of the state of Quintana Roo, as they allege that there is no type of control their health, since the registration of these establishments has not been carried out in its entirety, which affects the sector.

With the increase in infections in Cancun, hoteliers are afraid that this will ruin the high summer season, as it could lower the epidemiological traffic light and affect the maximum occupancy allowed.
