A commando attacked the home of William Bastarrachea de León, the deputy secretary of Citizen Security of the Solidaridad City Council, in Playa del Carmen. Fortunately, the officer was unharmed.
The attack occurred on the night of Monday, November 25, at Bastarrachea de León’s residence in the tourist city of Playa del Carmen. The Solidaridad City Council reported the incident on their official social media, stating it happened during “the first hours of the night.”
The Attorney General’s Office (FGE) of Quintana Roo has initiated an investigation to clarify the attack and identify those responsible. “Following the firearm attack recorded at the home of a commander of the Municipal Police of Solidaridad, who was unharmed, the #FGE reports the start of an investigation file to find the person or persons responsible for this event,” the FGE stated.
The attack took place at the deputy chief’s home in the El Pedregal neighborhood. Authorities discovered up to 10 spent shells at the scene, and the Solidaridad Police cordoned off the area to conduct inquiries.
Solidaridad is one of the eleven municipalities in the state of Quintana Roo, along with Benito Juárez and Tulum. It was created in 1993, originally known as Playa del Carmen, and became one of the four government delegations established before the division into municipalities.
