This forecast indicates how the sargassum bases move through the Caribbean Sea and where they will land. This information is validated through flights, either by helicopter or airplanes, to determine in a better way where the sargassum is found to send this ship there.

“The challenge will continue to be that we put it in the exact place where it collects sargassum,” explained Vice Admiral López Zenteno.

For his part, Governor Carlos Joaquín said that, with this forecast from the oceanographic institute, it will be possible to know in a timely manner where and how much sargassum would reach the beaches, to address the phenomenon in a timely manner.

For example, there are probabilities of high landfalls, according to the oceanographic models of the trajectory of currents, on the coasts of the municipalities of Solidaridad, Puerto Morelos and Benito Juárez, and in the south of the island of Cozumel, as well as from the vicinity from Sian Ka’an to Akumal.

The governor stressed the importance of having a periodic report of the joint activities that are carried out on the coast of Quintana Roo to reduce the amount of sargassum, and that people can know the status of each of the beaches.
