CANCÚN, QUINTA ROO.- The Director of Tourism, Meetings, and Romance of the Tourism Promotion Council of Quintana Roo (CPTQ), Rocío González Jonguitud, reported that there were over 63 thousand weddings that would have been celebrated in the first six months of 2020 in different destinations of the state, but that as a result of the health alert by COVID-19 are in “stand by”, although it is seeking that such events be rescheduled for the second half of 2020 or for the beginning of 2021.
“We are going to continue promoting the segment in wedding events that will surely announce their new dates later; but in what is happening we are focusing on the digital media and magazines of this segment to continue spreading and channeling all these events, obviously including health issues to guarantee to those who come that they have a wide margin of safety in this matter, “he said. González Jonguitud.
He noted that talking about the losses of economic spillover from these links is very varied, as there are weddings of only 10 people and others that are up to a thousand guests. Those of 50 or 100 people with extremely high investment and others of 800 guests, but much more modest, for what he reiterated, it is very difficult to give an estimate of what has been lost or will be losing financially in these months due to the reprogramming of such links.
He added that by stopping these marriage events a whole world of providers also does it, such as wedding planners, musicians, patisseries, lunch or dinner menu makers, tablecloths and whites, jewelers, clothing or rental stores, as well as travel agencies, airports and, in short, practically the entire tourist industry.
